We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Estimator to support projects during planning, design, and construction phases. The role involves developing detailed estimates from conceptual information and engineering drawings, reviewing and preparing final engineer's estimates, and engaging in change order negotiations.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare independent cost estimates to support projects during planning, design, and construction.
+ Develop detailed estimates from conceptual information and/or engineering drawings.
+ Review and prepare final engineer's estimates, considering factors such as phasing, airport operations, shift, resources, time constraints, and badging impacts.
+ Create detailed estimates comprising labor hours, composite crew costs, itemized material costs, and equipment costs.
+ Identify deficiencies and ambiguities in constructability reports and assist the project team in developing a credible cost budget.
+ Reconcile independent cost estimates by engaging third-party entities and communicating the results.
+ Analyze bids from vendors, contractors, and subcontractors to align with independent cost estimates.
+ Prepare and review material take-offs from planning documents or engineering drawings.
+ Accumulate, evaluate, and document historical cost data for the development of future estimates.
+ Review contract documents to determine scope of work and equitable cost allowance for scope changes.
+ Engage in change order negotiations by reviewing contractor potential change order claims for merit and negotiating to final resolution.
Essential Skills
+ Must have estimating experience related to both engineering and construction projects.
+ Level II: 5 years+, Level III: 10+ years, Level IV: 15+ years of experience.
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
+ Experience with On-Screen Takeoffs and Bluebeam.
+ Knowledge of Prolog.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
+ Certified estimating professional credential required (CCE, CCP, CPE, PMP).
+ Experience working with outside agencies like FAA, General Services division, LADWP, etc.

+ Demonstrated experience with complex estimate reconciliations and change order negotiations.
+ Comprehensive knowledge of construction-related processes and industry practices.
+ Self-starter attitude with a results-oriented focus.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication.
+ Comfortable operating in a team-oriented, collaborative work environment.
+ Produce accurate and timely results while maintaining a customer service attitude.
+ Detail-oriented and highly organized.
+ Demonstrated experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.
Work Environment
The position offers a hybrid work schedule with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and onsite collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Regular business hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Employees will be involved in large-scale public infrastructure projects, including terminal renovations, airside field work, and runway work, with project sizes likely to be $20 million plus.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
